Eligibility

The race is open to monohull sailing yachts that comply with the AYC’s definition of “classic yacht”: 

  • Yachts built before 31 December 1976 that have not been substantially modified from their original plans and that have been built as one-offs or in a limited non-industrial series.
  •   
  • Replica yachts that, regardless of their launch date, were built to plans pre-dating the end of 1976, and in accordance with techniques of that period.
  •   
  • Yachts built in the spirit of the classic yachts, of the period in which they were built and built as one-offs.

The organizing authority has the final say over any interpretation of the criteria for entry. In the case of a dispute, the organizing authority shall consult the owner of the vessel concerned before pronouncing its judgement which shall be final.

RATING

Both classes are rated according to the Classic Handicap.
The Classic Handicap is used for all classic yachts involved in regattas held along France’s Channel and Atlantic coasts. 
Ratings are based on the declaration of the applicant. Registration is free. For more information, go to http://www.jch-online.org/.
An official measurer may, at his discretion, check the dimensions of each boat.

SAIL MATERIALS

Extracts from the rating rules:

The main sail and foresails must have a uniform colour and all sails must be made of sewn assemblies of panels visibly squared woven. 
For spinnakers and gennakers, only sewn polyamide is admitted.
Competitors that comply with the above rules but one or several of their sails are not square woven shall see a penalty of 2 % applied to their real race time.
